From quiet forest trails and panoramic lookouts to cascading waterfalls and rugged Canadian Shield vistas, the region is filled with moments worthy of your camera roll.
Some trails, however, stand out for their especially stunning views and unforgettable vantage points. Whether you're capturing portraits, landscapes, or simply documenting the experience, these six trails deliver some of Muskoka's most photogenic scenery.
Turtle Lake & Clear Lake Trails — Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve
Located about 20 minutes northeast of downtown Huntsville, Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve is filled with natural beauty. With more than 10,000 acres of unspoiled mixed forest and over 20 private lakes, it's a dream location for nature lovers and photographers alike.
The combination of the Turtle Lake and Clear Lake trails offers the perfect mix of gentle elevation changes, peaceful lake views, and immersive forest scenery. Around every bend, there's another opportunity to stop, take in the view, and capture the landscape.
Lions Lookout — Huntsville
For a relatively easy hike with a rewarding payoff, Lions Lookout delivers one of the best panoramic views in Huntsville. From the summit, sweeping views over the town and Fairy Lake create one of the area's most iconic vantage points — particularly at sunrise or golden hour. Magnified viewers at the top allow visitors to spot familiar streets and landmarks below, while the elevated perspective makes for incredible photos in every season.
Wilson's Falls — Bracebridge
Wilson's Falls has seen a lot of beautiful moments. This one might be our favourite.
Tucked just outside of Bracebridge, Wilson's Falls offers one of Muskoka's most underrated scenic walks. The trail follows a series of rushing rapids and waterfalls along the Muskoka River, creating a dramatic and ever-changing backdrop for photos in every season.
The combination of wooden bridges, forested pathways, rocky shoreline views, and powerful moving water makes this location especially beautiful for both landscape photography and casual candid moments. Whether you visit during the vibrant colours of fall or the lush greenery of summer, Wilson's Falls delivers a classic Muskoka experience with plenty of opportunities to stop, explore, and capture the scenery.
Dorset Lookout Tower — Dorset
Worth the climb!
Perched high above the tiny village of Dorset on the edge of Muskoka and Haliburton, the Dorset Lookout Tower offers breathtaking 360-degree views that truly showcase Ontario's cottage country. Beautiful in every season, the tower becomes especially spectacular in the fall, when Muskoka's famous autumn colours stretch endlessly across the landscape. If you're looking for the ultimate fall colour photo opportunity, this is hard to beat.
Huckleberry Rock — Bracebridge
Odin the Alaskan Malamute surveys his kingdom from the top of Huckleberry Rock.
Huckleberry Rock has become one of Muskoka's most iconic hiking destinations — and for good reason. The rugged Canadian Shield terrain, dramatic rock formations, and sweeping Lake Muskoka vistas make this trail especially rewarding for photographers. The moderate-level hike leads visitors through classic Muskoka scenery, with multiple lookout points offering stunning perspectives of the surrounding landscape. It's the kind of place that reminds you why Muskoka is so unforgettable.
High Falls — Bracebridge
One of the most peaceful walks in Muskoka can be found along the trails surrounding High Falls in Bracebridge. The soothing sounds of cascading waterfalls, gentle breezes through the trees, and calls from local wildlife create a calming atmosphere that feels worlds away from everyday life. With waterfalls, forest pathways, and scenic viewpoints throughout the trail system, it's also the kind of location that naturally lends itself to memorable photos, engagement sessions, and beautifully candid moments.
Hatchery Falls Trail — Fish Hatchery Park, Muskoka Lakes
Located within Fish Hatchery Park, this scenic trail winds through the site of a former fish hatchery once operated by the Ministry of Natural Resources. Today, the Hatchery Falls Trail offers a relaxed and visually diverse hiking experience through wetlands, ponds, meadows, and forest — an ideal location for capturing a wide range of nature photography, all within one easy-to-enjoy trail system.
Of course, these are only a few of the countless trails woven throughout Muskoka's landscape. But if you're looking for scenic views, unforgettable moments, and photographs that truly capture the feeling of cottage country, these are a beautiful place to begin.
