Protect Your Paradise

Using true local pest control experts is key to a safe space.
Protecting your paradise. Mike and Mark Sampson of Muskoka Pest Control.
Your cottage in Muskoka is more than an investment. It's your escape from the daily grind, an oasis among the Canadian Shield, tall pine forests, and of course, the lakes.
Though those amazing environmental characteristics are what make the place so special, they're also the natural habitat for a plethora of native wildlife. And some of these creatures will inevitably find their way into your living space, bringing with them unwanted dangers.
“You have to protect your paradise,” says Muskoka Pest Control’s Mark Sampson.
“There are so many native species that have a knack for finding their way into buildings. More than a few will try to make themselves comfortable within your home or cottage.”
Mice, carpenter ants, spiders, wasps and hornets, flies, earwigs, and various rodents and mammals can all become unwanted house guests if not taken care of properly.
Mark, who owns and operates Muskoka Pest Control with his son Mike, explains that while not all pests intentionally seek out your home, many species are specifically looking for food and shelter.
As true local experts — the Muskoka Pest Control team has over 53 years of experience — they know where to look, when to look, and how to provide the appropriate service and control options for each type of pest.
Knowing where to look.
"It's part and parcel of being experienced local experts," explains Mike. "We know that carpenter ants are attracted to damp wood where they can build nests and tunnels to live in. Mice, on the other hand, are often looking for shelter in the fall to survive the colder months."
Carpenter ants are a problem because often, by the time you know they're in your home, they have already caused significant structural damage behind walls and ceilings.
Meanwhile, mice can find their way into a home or cottage through the tiniest cracks — all they need is 6 mm — and they like to chew on wiring behind walls, which can potentially cause short circuits and electrical fires.
"Mice, and other rodents like rats, also carry diseases that can lead to health issues, particularly impacting the respiratory system," says Mark. "They can sneak in when you're least expecting it, especially when a home or cottage is empty during the off-season."
No sleeping on the job.
This is why Mark and Mike recommend a year-round pest control maintenance plan, which is fully customizable to your needs. Muskoka Pest Control professionals will visit once each season to manage unwanted visitors and help prevent infestations before they start.
“We’re protecting your paradise, so you can focus on enjoying your property.”
