Seasonal Residents Encouraged to Confirm Voter Registration Before August 12

The Muskoka Lakes Association (MLA) is reminding seasonal property owners and long-term renters to verify their voter registration before August 12 ahead of Ontario's municipal election on October 26, 2026.

Due to responsibility for the voters' list shifting from MPAC to Elections Ontario, some seasonal property owners and their spouses may no longer appear on the municipal voters' list—even if they have voted in previous elections.

The MLA says municipal elections have a direct impact on issues important to cottage owners, including planning and development decisions, roads, and waste services. The association has launched an awareness campaign to encourage eligible voters to confirm their registration before voter list management transfers to municipal clerks after August 12.

Under Ontario election rules, eligible citizens who own or rent property in a municipality may vote there in addition to voting in the municipality where they permanently reside.
